Cheer Fundamentals

This fun and engaging cheerleading basics program is designed for kids in grades 5-11 who are interested in learning the fundamentals of cheerleading. Whether they are brand new to the sport or looking to improve their skills, this program will provide a solid foundation in motions, jumps, and basic stunting in a safe and supportive environment.

Registration opens 3/17. Cost is $40 for residents and $55 for nonresidents.
Program runs Wednesday evenings from 6pm-7:30pm in the Foley Gymnasium

UPDATE: Program now available to kids in grades 5 through 11.
Athletes will be split up based on skillset and abilities for stunts. The younger athletes will be working with high school athletes within CheerSafe rules and regulations. Motions and jumps will be mixed together and done as a large group.

What Participants Will Learn:
• Cheer Motions: Proper technique for common cheer motions (e.g., high V, low V, T, broken T)
• Jumps: Introduction to basic jumps such as toe touches and pikes with an emphasis on form and flexibility.
• Basic Stunting (Optional & Safety-Based): Learning safe techniques for beginner stunts, including proper spotting, building confidence, and basic stunting positions.
• Teamwork & Confidence: Cheerleading is all about spirit and working together! The program will encourage teamwork, leadership, and self-confidence.

Warm-Up & Conditioning:
Each session will begin with a proper warm-up to prevent injuries and enhance flexibility. Warm-ups will include:
• Dynamic stretching (arm circles, leg swings, lunges)
• Light cardio (jumping jacks, jogging in place)
• Flexibility drills (toe touches, straddle stretches)
• Strength-building exercises (core work, squats, push-ups)

Attire & What to Bring:
Participants should wear:
• Comfortable athletic clothing (shorts/leggings and a t-shirt/tank top)
• Supportive athletic shoes (cheer shoes preferred but not required)
• Hair pulled back securely
• No jewelry for safety reasons

Each participant should bring a water bottle to stay hydrated.

This program is designed to be a fun and energetic introduction to cheerleading while promoting fitness, coordination, and school spirit!
